What New York City hotel rooms sometimes lack in space, they can more than make up for with dramatic views of illuminated skyscrapers, iconic bridges, and rivers snaking as far as the eye can see. The very best views of Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Queens available to the general public are found inside the hotels of New York City, from suites and rooftop pools to lounges and penthouses.

These standout luxury hotels are not only excellent places to stay, eat, and drink – many of them having earned nods from our World’s Best Awards and It List – but they’re also the most awe-inducing vantage points from which to gaze upon the City That Never Sleeps. In this article, we highlight the very best hotels with picturesque views of New York City, and share the best rooms in each one for experiencing them.

Why I’m the Expert

Maria Yagoda is a Brooklyn-based travel writer and editor who has lived in New York City for over a decade. A frequent staycationer and lover of hotel bars, pools, and spas, she has stayed at many of the hotels on this list, as well as experienced their food and beverage offerings. Most importantly, she has personally witnessed many of the spectacular views for herself.

What We Like
  • The Central Park views are pretty unbeatable, made all the more stunning by floor-to-ceiling windows.

What to Consider
  • You’re further removed from the downtown action, though it's just a quick subway ride away.

With floor-to-ceiling windows that let guests take full advantage of breathtaking views, the rooms at this chic, sky-high hotel live up to its storied location. All rooms and suites offer spectacular views of the Manhattan skyline, Central Park, or the Hudson River. For the expansive park views that the hotel is famous for, book the Premier Central Park View Room or Suite (the latter lets you also see the Hudson River from your bedroom.)

If you prefer showstopping cityscapes, go with the New York Skyline Suite on the hotel’s top floor. For panoramic views without the sleepover, don’t miss afternoon tea at MO Lounge. The glamorous property is just a 2-minute walk from Central Park, and the hotel can arrange picnics for guests.

What We Like
  • This tranquil waterfront hotel is just about as luxe as eco-friendly comes.

What to Consider
  • While located near the ferry, it’s not so easily accessible by subway.

When I stayed here with my chihuahua on a recent staycation, I felt utterly starstruck by my room’s close-up view of the iconic Brooklyn Bridge and shimmering East River. I’d never seen New York City from this striking angle, after over a decade of living here. Located in the lovely Brooklyn Bridge Park, this luxurious eco-friendly hotel feels properly secluded despite being in the heart of Brooklyn, thanks to lush greenery in indoor spaces and thoughtful design that offers an overall sense of calm.

Book the Bridge King Room for magnificent glimpses of all the icons, framed by your window: the Brooklyn Bridge, Statue of Liberty, and Manhattan. The Liberty Studio Suite offers an equally stunning view of the Statue of Liberty and skyline. For jaw-dropping views of everything, grab a bite or take a dip at Harriet's Rooftop and Lounge, which has one of the most spectacular pools in New York City.

The Details:

  • Neighborhood: Dumbo, Brooklyn

“This hotel has an outstanding location in Brooklyn Bridge Park – and the hammock rooms are worth the upgrade. The rooftop pool is small, but the views are huge.”

What We Like
  • The most elegant hotel in New York City has a dazzling spa and wellness center that spans three stories.

What to Consider
  • Rates are more expensive than most of its competitors in the city.

This elegant It List 2023 property housed in the historic Crown Building is improbably tranquil, given its position in Midtown Manhattan towering above 5th Avenue. But with a three-story spa and a deep soaking tub (and working fireplace) in every room, the luxe accommodations offer sanctuary amid the chaos and views that match the price tag. Some suites and rooms offer views of 5th Ave (like the glam Premiere Suite 5th Avenue), while others perch above 56th or 57th Streets (like the Deluxe Suite 56th Street).

The Details:

  • Neighborhood: Midtown Manhattan
  • Accessibility: Multiple hearing- and mobility-accessible suites and facilities. See here for more information
  • Nearby Attractions: 5th Avenue, Central Park, MOMA, Broadway, Rockefeller Center
  • Loyalty Programs: None
  • Parking: Valet parking
  • Pet Policies: Pets can stay for $350 fee
  • Rates: Starting at $1,950

“Within the 102-year-old building (which is tinged with French Renaissance and neoclassical flair), the goal was to ‘bring the Aman resort experience from the horizontal to the vertical,’ Aman CEO Vlad Doronin previously told T+L. How? A three-floor spa with a 65-foot swimming pool; massive rooms (the largest of which is 2,780 square feet and has an unlisted price); and the Garden Terrace’s Belgian blue stone–covered fountain with a fire pit in the middle all make the hotel feel like a private island resort at 57th and Fifth.”

What We Like
  • This independent hotel feels quintessentially New York and is walkable from so many great neighborhoods.

What to Consider
  • Due to its busy location in the heart of SoHo, there can be a bit of street noise.

With 46 stories, three restaurants, and the excellent Sisley spa, this very chic and cosmopolitan hotel offers floor-to-ceiling windows in every room, all of which boast one of two spectacular views: rooms on floors 9 to 15 face Hudson Square, where floors 16 to 23 offer cityscape views to the east. The hotel’s rooms and suites are spacious and stylish, with custom furnishings by Fendi Casa.

With 303 rooms in the ever-hip Lower East Side, and just steps from SoHo shopping, the brand-new Moxy is playful and fun – check-in is at the bar! – with comfortable rooms, a cool design, and free breakfast.

Thanks to its exceptional height, views extend for miles and are on great display with floor-to-ceiling windows. “The Pierre is everything you'd expect from a world-class, five-star hotel in the heart of New York City. Drenched in old-world charm (elevator attendants included), this hotel features spectacular views over Central Park and the city skyline. While the relatively small rooms are what you have to expect from even a luxury property in Manhattan, the beds are comfortable, the opulent bathrooms are updated, and the suites are nothing short of downright gorgeous. Situated on the Upper East Side, the location right next to the park is unbeatable, too.”

Know Before You Go

Choose a hotel in an area that’s convenient for your travel plans

New York City is massive, so to narrow down your hotel search, start with the area or neighborhood located nearby most of the things you want to do during your stay. If you’re planning to get around by subway (which is the fastest way to get most places), make sure there is a subway station within close walking distance.

Don’t overbook yourself

Visiting NYC for a short amount of time can be overwhelming because there is a dizzying number of interesting things to do, eat, and see – but if you overbook and exhaust yourself, you won’t enjoy any of it. Set aside time to just hang out and relax in your hotel room during your trip, especially since you’ve booked a room with a view and will want to have time to enjoy it.

Download some helpful apps before you go

There are a few handy phone apps that can make New York City easier to navigate. Make sure you have OpenTable and Resy for booking restaurants, the MTA app for planning your subway routes, and TodayTix if you’re interested in booking last-minute Broadway tickets at a discounted price. Speaking of apps, take a close look at the forecasted weather as you’re packing your bags: city weather can be unpredictable and unseasonably hot or cold, so come prepared. Check out our full New York City guide for everything else you should know before your trip.

How We Chose These Hotels

To determine the New York City hotels with the best views, we started with a list of the city’s top hotels. Many of these properties earned coveted spots on our It List and in our World's Best Awards, thanks to the votes of hundreds of thousands of T+L readers (see the 2024 winners here) and our editors’ favorite new hotel selections. Then, we chose the hotels that offered the most show-stopping views based on first-hand experience from our editors and network of travel advisors, as well as New York-based writer Maria Yagoda’s experience staying (and dining) at many of these hotels herself.

All of these properties are spectacular in their own right, based on metrics like service, design, and amenities, and they just so happen to have the city views to match. As with all our hotel roundups, we ensure that each of our recommendations aligns with our core T+L Hotel Values.
