Picture this: you’re sun-kissed and sipping retsina in your private plunge pool, watching as the sun puts on a blood-orange spectacle before it dips into the Aegean Sea. Whether you’ve come to Mykonos on a honeymoon or a mission to hit all the best beach clubs, you’re in luck: the relatively small island, which stretches just 33 square miles, is home to hundreds of the chicest, most luxurious hotels and private villas in the Cyclades — and frankly, the world.

With so many options for where to stay — from charming, family-run properties skirting the action in chora (Greek for “town”) to exclusive sanctuaries built into the cliffs on the island’s southeast coast — it can be nearly impossible to narrow down the best options.

To help you plan the perfect trip, we’ve researched the best hotels and resorts in Mykonos. We’ve included award-winning properties that earned coveted spots on our annual T+L World’s Best Awards list, which features properties voted on by thousands of T+L readers, and It List – our exclusive list of the hottest new hotel openings of the year – as well as our personal favorite places to stay when we’re on the island for both proximity and privacy.

Katikies Mykonos

What We Like
  • All rooms and suites open out onto their own private veranda — there’s no such thing as a bad view here.

What to Consider
  • Kids under 13 aren’t allowed, so this isn’t a good option for young families.

There’s perhaps nothing more heavenly than taking in the spectacle of a Greek sunset from your own private veranda — save for, perhaps, if said veranda included your own private plunge pool or jetted tub, which is the case in all of the upper-tier rooms at this 35-suite oasis.

Across room levels you can expect maximal comfort from minimal furnishings: think white-washed walls and a fluffy bed, accented with little more than an orchid, white leather ottomans, and deep-blue bed frames or throw pillows. Here, the view is the star of the show.

The whitewashed Katikies Mykonos opened in 2018, earning a coveted place on our It List that year and quickly establishing itself as one of the leading hotels on the island thanks to its top-tier service and a privileged perch above Agios Ioannis Beach. It’s earned a spot on our World’s Best Awards list in 2020, 2021, and 2022, with T+L readers drawn to the promise of a restful, restorative home base away from the crowds, but still within easy driving access to town. Couples looking for a romantic getaway will find it at this adults-only property, where swimming pools overlook the sea and champagne is always on hand at the lovely Fleur de Miraval Champagne Bar.

If you’re island hopping, you’ll want to check out their similarly luxe sister property, Katikies Santorini, which earned the number one spot on our 2023 World’s Best Awards.

Bill & Coo Hotels

Private pool deck

Agios Ioannis / Bill & Coo Hotels

What We Like
  • The property has been open since 2006 — it knows itself and its clientele well, and its particular brand of unpretentious luxury often turns first-time visitors into lifelong loyalists.

What to Consider
  • Base yourself at their newer coastal property if you’re looking for a more private escape — rooms at Suites & Lounge are closer together and common areas draw a hip, buzzy crowd.

Bill & Coo Suites & Lounge opened in 2006, and quickly established itself as a beacon of laidback luxury set just outside the bustle of Mykonos town. The 60 rooms received a chic, modern makeover in 2016, with the help of local hotelier Theodosis Kakoutis and Athenian cool-kid architects K-Studio, who cocooned the rooms in a soothing, neutral palette — think: pristine white beds draped with taupe-colored linens. Here, it’s worthwhile to splurge on a suite with your own plunge pool, which boasts views over the Aegean that earned the hotel a spot in our World’s Best Awards in 2021.

If you’re looking for something even more private, opt for one of the magnificent stone suites at their sophisticated, adults-only sister property, Bill & Coo Coast. Set alongside a smooth strip of wind-protected beach on the Agios Ioannis peninsula, these recently-designed suites are secluded far from the island’s party scene, and several offer expansive terraces overlooking the island of Delos.

A free shuttle runs between the two properties, allowing guests to move easily between them; spend a day lounging beachside before heading back the the original hotel, where a swanky, sun-drunk crowd of fashion designers, gallery owners, and the occasional celebrity will be tucking into Kobe beef gyros and freshly grilled fish beneath the Mulberry trees as a DJ spins in the background.

Kalesma Mykonos

What We Like
  • The suites are superbly private, while convivial common areas like the sleek infinity pool and Mediterranean restaurant invite a sense of community.

What to Consider
  • The relatively new property is one of the most luxurious options in Mykonos, and is priced as such.

A timeless, tranquil retreat set on a hilltop above glittering Ornos Bay, this 25-suite- and villa-only property eschews the typical blue and white Mykonian color scheme, opting instead to show a quieter side of Greek luxury: every suite is an airy sanctuary of natural fibers, soft wood accents, and neutral hues. Large glass doors open onto expansive patios — each with private infinity pools and sun loungers wide enough to cuddle up on — which creates the sort of boundless indoor-outdoor connection that Athens-based designers K-Studios and Studio Bonarchi aimed for. The lavish space speaks to a vision of the island that is both classic and contemporary, leaning into its Greek heritage (one of the hotelier’s families has owned the land the property is built on for over a century).

The hotel, which was included on our 2022 It List, also boasts one of the island’s best Mediterranean restaurants, Pere Ubu, where you can snack on fresh mezze all day long (like a trio of Greek dips and fresh local cheese); at night, a DJ curates the vibes well past sundown.

The Details:

  • Location: Ornos Bay
  • Distance From Airport: 2.9 miles

  • Rates: Start at $921

“In May 2023, I stopped by the hotel for a beautiful evening of Greek theatre – a modern retelling of the myth of Apollo, called “The Light of Apollo," with hauntingly poignant music, set against the setting sun. What followed was one of those perfect outdoor dinners where the conversation flowed for hours and torch light flickered on the surface of the courtyard pool. The rooms were built to look like a traditional Mykonos village; the interior design is soothing, with natural colors, sanded wood, and rounded edges.”

Cali Mykonos

What We Like
  • The saltwater infinity pool is reportedly the longest, and definitively the most seductive, on the entire island.

What to Consider
  • Located on the southeast coast, it’s farther removed from town than most of the other properties on this list.

Rising out of a remote, craggy hilltop on the southeast coast, Cali Mykonos is a secluded, semi-well-kept secret, designed by Athens-based STFN Labs with reclaimed Greek stone and marble. Rooms and suites are filled with bespoke pieces from local designers, and living rooftops covered in vegetation further harmonize the hotel with its surroundings. Town is a 20-minute drive away, so you can truly rest and reset here, and given that you can arrive via helipad or private boat deck, you can expect to find a well-heeled international crowd doing the same.

Swimming in the sea is more or less mandatory while visiting the Cyclades, but for those who prefer to unwind poolside, there’s no better setup than the turquoise ribbon of saltwater cutting along the cliff at this five-star property. At 130 meters long, it’s reportedly the longest pool in Mykonos, and among the most captivating in the world. And it’s only one of the many options for taking a dip here — each of the 40 suites and villas boasts a sea-facing terrace with their own private plunge pool, and guests can duck down to the intimate sandy cove below to experience what can only be described as the blissful antithesis of a bass-thumping beach club. The ultra-luxe property was named one of the best new hotels and best beach getaways on Travel + Leisure's 2023 It List.

The Details:

  • Location: Kalafatis
  • Distance From Airport: 6.2 miles
  • Accessibility: Three suites

“Seclusion and low-key luxury define Cali Mykonos, a welcome antidote to the island’s reputation for all-night parties. The property’s 40 suites and villas are scattered like sugarcubes along a secluded cliff, on the island’s quieter southeastern side. Chef Lefteris Lazarou, whose restaurant Varoulko Seaside received Greece’s first Michelin star in 2002, oversees Cali’s menu of fresh Mediterranean staples. In lieu of deafening DJ tunes and cramped sunbeds, you’ll find most guests hanging out at the cliffside infinity pool, or at the private sandy cove for brisk swims. If you do want to venture out, the concierge team can organize island hops by yacht and get you insider access to some of the island’s best beach clubs.”

What We Like
  • There’s a relaxed, communal vibe to this sultry adults-only property.

What to Consider
  • The hotel’s remote location means you’ll need to coordinate taxis (which aren’t exactly cheap) to get back and forth to most of the beach clubs and bars around town, if you’re so inclined.

Like it’s older sibling on Rhodes, the vibe of this Thomas Cook hotel is earthy and elevated, with cool, modern interiors and stone walls accented with dark wood furnishings, plus rustic-chic touches like rattan baskets placed just-so, and layers of natural linens and hand-woven textiles. The same low-slung, boxy silhouette traces through every aspect of the property, from the sexy pool loungers to the sugar cube-style suites.

In a nod to the island’s traditional architecture, the 26 luxury suites and villas at this adults-only retreat are arranged like their own little village, with Casa Cook’s inviting pool and outdoor restaurant at their center. While you’d be forgiven for wanting to laze about in your room all day (particularly if you spring for one with a private pool), you’ll want to head down to Ble Restaurant for sunset at least once, as it’s quite the scene.

Mykonos Grand Hotel & Resort

What We Like
  • The hotel feels like its own village, with stone pathways curving up the hillside and between rooms.

What to Consider
  • Those who prefer a more modern and minimalist style may find the color scheme a bit too on-theme.

For years, my phone background has been a picture of paradise: a lush palm tree looms in the foreground, with glistening turquoise waters and dusky purple islands behind it. It’s a photo I took on my last day at Mykonos Grand Hotel & Resort, in an attempt to bottle the magic of this Cycladic oasis.

Mosaic floors, hand-carved marble, and sea views beckon you into the sunlit lobby upon arrival, where we checked in before heading to our Premium Sea View room. The rooms, which have been refreshed since my visit, are classically and somewhat nautically decorated, playing up the Mykonian color scheme with an arched ceiling painted robin’s egg-blue and speckled with a constellation of tiny ceiling lights.

The bathrooms are a spa-like, marble-filled affair, with modern free-standing tubs and luxurious rainfall showers. For a true spa experience, Althea Spa Retreat offers superb treatments in their light-filled facilities, along with a steam and sauna that work wonders for detoxing the previous nights’ festivities.

Other delights not to miss at this spectacular seaside escape include Nama, the mouthwatering poolside restaurant where contemporary Greek food is topped off with herbs from the hotel garden, and the amphitheatre, where pilates and yoga are offered with Delos views.

The Wild Hotel

Guest room in The Wild Hotel

What We Like
  • The hotel’s new restaurant, Raw, serves refreshing Greek-Japanese food with unbeatable views from small terraces built into the cliffside.

What to Consider
  • Both Raw and the hotel’s private beach are only accessible by natural stone steps, meaning this isn’t a great option for those with reduced mobility.

Rather than shelling out hundreds of dollars for a daybed at an overcrowded beach club, consider booking a room at The Wild Hotel, a 40 suite- and villa- property perched over the best (and only) private beach in Mykonos. This idyllic swimming hole boasts a curved, sandy crescent that’s protected from the island’s strong summer winds, and attentive staff who will make sure you have whatever you need (a cocktail, sunscreen, beach snacks — you name it).

The property is built into and on top of the cliff: the hotel’s newest restaurant, Raw, is a collection of vertical terraces built into the cliffside, each featuring a rustic table setup where Greek-Japanese fare (like Mediterranean-inspired maki rolls) is served at sundown, and later by candlelight. It’s one of the most romantic dining destinations on the island, and one you should be sure to book ahead given its intimate size.

The hotel is hewn from natural materials — it’s all unfinished wood, rough stone, and earthy terracotta, with handmade textiles and objects decorating the cozy rooms. Its centerpiece glistens atop the cliff: an angular, infinity-edge pool where guests (who skew youthful, hip, and international) sip cocktails and strike up conversations.

Belvedere Waterfront Villa

What We Like
  • Choose from residential-style abodes, waterfront villas, and hilltop suites at this historic family-run property.

What to Consider
  • While there are plenty of private hideaways here, part of its charm is that it is still a place people come to see and be seen — if you’re craving isolation, consider some of the more remote properties on this list.

You can’t talk about luxury hotels in Mykonos without talking about the Belvedere. It set the scene back in the ‘90s, when the family-run property opened on the site of a historic 1960’s mansion. Now run by the second generation, the hotel is legendary for its White Parties and Venetian balls. Over the past three decades, it’s expanded to include what is now a trio of interconnected properties, each offering stylish abodes to suit every type of traveler: those seeking a more social experience should head to the airy, whitewashed main Hotel, which is a few moments’ walk from town; the Hilltop Rooms & Suites offer endless views of the island, as well as more residential-style accommodations; and the Waterfront Villa & Suites are designed for those seeking a truly exclusive escape.

While private enclaves are aplenty here, this remains a place to see and be seen — the famous Matsuhisa Mykonos restaurant is a shining example, as it draws crowds from all over the island who are eager to dine at the outdoor sushi bar from internationally-acclaimed chef Nobu. Those seeking a moment of self care should book in at the sublime Six Senses Spa, where holistic rituals and personalized yoga programs are on offer.

Nammos Hotel Mykonos & Villas

What We Like
  • Every room is assigned a personal butler who will organize airport transfers, restaurant reservations, excursions around the island, and more.

What to Consider
  • The proximity to Nammos Beach Club means you’ll likely want to pack earplugs — the party goes day and night here.

Nammos Beach Club is a legendary hotspot spread along popular Psarou Beach. Celebrities are often spotted beneath its iconic blue-and-white striped umbrellas, and the crowd generally skews cosmopolitan (there’s a helipad available for those looking to make a grand entrance). For VIP access to a beach lounge, book a room at Nammos Hotel Mykonos & Villas, where 26 contemporary rooms and suites offer a place to recharge when you need a break from the sun. As a sign of truly elevated service, each room is assigned a personal butler, who will be delighted to take care of anything from airport transfers to boat excursions (and who can procure you ear plugs if you need a break from the beach scene — at Nammos, the party is practically 24/7).

Rooms are accessorized in Millennial-approved style, with fabulous furnishings from Italian label Loro Piana — expect trendy terrazzo floors, jute rugs, and teal accent tables. Three expansive villas offer a private oasis for families or groups, ranging from four to nine bedrooms; all feature smooth Grecian marble and high-end amenities from Diptyque and Dyson.

The Details:

  • Location: Psarou Beach

Tharroe of Mykonos Boutique Hotel

What We Like
  • The green shutters add a touch of old-world charm to this cozy hotel, which houses an impressive art and antique collection.

What to Consider
  • The hotel features a lively, social atmosphere – a consideration if you prefer a quieter, more private experience.

Few hotels offer as personalized and intimate a welcome as Tharroe, where owner and manager Olga Papadaki strives to make each guest feel at home (and has been doing so since she first opened the property right on the edge of town in 1997).

This is one of the few places that’s retained much of its old-world charm, without feeling dated: green shutters grace every room, where furnishings are simple, tasteful, and evocative of the island itself. Fluffy white beds and curated antiques create unique backdrops, from which you can step out onto a private veranda or terrace to take in views of the Old Port or windmills.

The hotel is home to an impressive private art collection, which is displayed throughout the property: sculptures, paintings, and silk screens decorate the common spaces, as do antiques, such as the 1890 reception desk.

Lovia

Guest room in Lovia Mykonos

What We Like
  • This hotel is perfectly located for everything you’ll want to do on the island.

What to Consider
  • It’s an adults-only property, not ideal for those traveling with children.

Less than a 10-minute walk from town and Agia Anna Beach, Lovia offers superior proximity to everything from Mykonos’ famous windmills to its bougainvillaea-laced labyrinth of chic boutiques — and of course, to some of the best places to eat, drink, and dance on the island.

But the luxe hotel is also a destination in itself, offering one of the most postcard-perfect views of the city. Marble walls, organic textures, and in-room lounges offer a tranquil space to retreat to after a night of table dancing, and king-size beds with Kluft mattresses will have you feeling good as new in the morning. For further pampering, indulge in a treatment at Rockrose Spa, which unlocks access to their candlelit, lagoon-like pool that’s nestled into a whitewashed cave wall.

Santa Marina, A Luxury Collection Resort

Mykonos Greece Santa Marina Resort

Courtesy of Santa Marina, a Luxury Collection Resort, Mykonos

What We Like
  • The family-run hotel boasts its own private soft-sand beach oasis on popular Ornos Bay.

What to Consider
  • There’s no complimentary shuttle to town anymore, so you’ll need to coordinate with the (extremely obliging) concierge.

Family-run since 1979, the Santa Marina occupies one of the most idyllic locations on the entire island, complete with its own private beach club that boasts perhaps the smoothest sand anywhere on the otherwise-rocky coast.

The hotel is spread out across 20-acres of hillsides and lush grounds — wander around and you’ll find yourself in front of an iconic windmill, or the hotel’s namesake Santa Marina chapel (where weddings can be arranged). All of the luxurious accommodations — including 101 guest rooms and suites, and 13 villas that function as private homes with butler service, underwent a chic renovation in 2017 courtesy of Greek interior designer Silvina Macipe Krontiras, resulting in a distinctly upscale beach-cottage aesthetic: think organic textures, wood accents, and raffia tapestries behind giant, fluffy white beds.

As you explore the property, make time to lounge around the sunken sunbeds that flank the pristine infinity-edge pool; for those who’ve spent a bit too much time in the sun (or perhaps at Scorpios), book a restorative treatment at Ginkgo Spa, which features a traditional hammam. The Beach Bar is truly not to be missed, as it's a rare opportunity to experience such calm, clear waters without the overwhelming crowds.

The Details:

  • Location: Ornos
  • Distance From Airport: 1.5 miles
  • Accessibility: Yes, but opt for ground-floor rooms
  • Rates: Start at $526

Know Before You Go

There won’t be as much action (or as many tourists) in the off season

Mykonos vibrates with such kinetic energy during the summer that it’s hard to imagine the island gone quiet — picture beach clubs empty; DJs flown back to Berlin; and hotels and restaurants shuttered for the season. During the low season (mid-October through early April), expect much of the island to hunker down and close for winter, when temperatures drop to around 54 degrees Fahrenheit.

Tourists are few and far between at this point, so if you’re not one for the party scene anyway, consider planning a trip around the shoulder seasons to avoid peak crowds and score the best prices (and potential extras, like room upgrades).

Book your accommodations in advance during peak season

Spring and summer are the high season in Mykonos and around the Greek islands in general, and it’s not uncommon to watch prices quadruple and reservations disappear as demand picks up. If you’re planning to visit this summer, consider the options we’ve pulled together here and booking your accommodations (and while you’re at it, some dinner reservations at hotspots like Gastronomy Project) as far in advance as possible — like, now.

Mykonos has its own international airport

For such a small island — just about 33 square miles— Mykonos is quite easy to get to and around, thanks to a convenient local airport (Mykonos-Manto Mavrogenous Airport) and several A-list-friendly helipad options.

If you’re coming from the U.S., note that you’ll still have to connect through another European city on your way to the airport; it only services domestic Greek and European destinations directly.

If you’re more of the seafaring type, consider flying directly to Athens and then hopping on a ferry over, which takes about 2.5 hours.

Mykonos isn’t the most family-friendly or accessible destination

If you’re looking to plan a grand family vacation and are set on Mykonos as the destination, know that the island isn’t the easiest option. There are certainly family-friendly and mobile-accessible hotels and activities throughout the island – which we’ve pointed out in the hotel descriptions here — but you’ll want to check directly with the property to see what sort of services and accommodations they currently offer. Several luxury properties offer babysitting services for young kids, while others are adults-only — but even that can mean either 16-and-up, or 18-and-up, depending on the property.

If you’re traveling with someone with mobility limitations, there are several properties on this list that can accommodate wheelchairs; however, it’s always a good idea to call the property to confirm how navigable the space is in general, as several European hotels I’ve personally stayed at have listed themselves as accessible when there might be a step or two up into a restaurant or lobby.

That being said, most of the properties here feature accessible common areas, while several include accessible rooms with wheelchair-accessible bathrooms. Several hotels also offer on-call buggy services that will whisk you around the hotel.

How We Chose These Hotels

As Greece’s premiere party destination, Mykonos draws an international jetset with refined taste — and over the past 15 years, an increasing number of glamorous hotels have cropped up on the island in response. From family-run hotels that have kept up with the times to newly-designed cliffside retreats, there are dozens of luxurious properties to choose from on the island. Wonderfully, many of them are still Greek-owned, rather than run by big-name brands.

To narrow down the top hotels on the island, we started by highlighting the properties which thousands of T+L readers have voted as their favorites in our annual World’s Best Awards in recent years. Other newly-opened or freshly-renovated properties have earned our stamp of approval by landing a spot on our annual editor-curated It List.

In addition to including those award-winning properties, T+L contributor Sophie Dodd tapped her trusted network of travelers and editors to share their favorite properties around the island, which she then researched thoroughly before including their top recommendations here. She also relied on her own experiences traveling around Mykonos to speak to the island’s dreamiest properties.

The hotels and resorts included here reflect top-tier guest experience from check-in to check-out, as well as drool-worthy design, superlative comfort, and staff that take the entire experience to the next level. Sophie also prioritized hotels with accessible rooms, sustainable programs, and luxurious amenities like spas, pools, private terraces, and fitness centers.

And finally, as with all our hotel roundups, editors ensure all hotel recommendations we make align with our core T+L Hotel Values.
